For our members impacted by the gas explosion in the communities of Lawrence, Andover, and North Andover on September 13, 2018:

Due to the recent events in the Merrimack Valley area BMC HealthNet Plan wants to make sure that you have all the information that you need to stay well during this difficult time. We’ve included some information about your health insurance premiums, city resources, and our Care Management team that may be helpful to you and your family.

Information about Your Health Insurance Premiums for Qualified Health Plan Members:

Members Enrolled Through the Health Connector

The MA Health Connector is waiving health insurance premiums for people who live in Lawrence, Andover, and North Andover for the next three months. The waiver will be available for the months of October, November, and December. You should also know that the gas explosions are considered a qualifying life event by the Health Connector. This opens a special enrollment period for residents in these towns to enroll in or change their current health care coverage. To have your health insurance premiums waived or to ask about the special enrollment period contact Health Connector Customer Service (1-877-623-6765, TTY: 1-877-623- 7773, or e-mail via and request a premium hardship waiver or special enrollment period on the grounds that: (1) you reside in Lawrence, Andover, or North Andover; and (2) have been adversely affected by the gas explosion.

Care Managers

If you need help managing your health condition in light of this event, please contact your Care Manager. If you don’t have a Care Manager, that’s okay, we’re here to help! You can call Care Management at 866-853-5241 and explain that your health needs have been impacted by the events in Merrimack Valley. Our Care Management team is committed to helping you and your family get the care you need to stay healthy.

Shower Locations

You can take a shower at the YMCA’s located in Lawrence, Andover, and North Andover. There is no cost for using the showers, but you will need to bring your own toiletries like shampoo and body wash. Your town may have other locations available where you and your family can go to get cleaned up. Because some of these locations may change we recommend checking your town’s website for more information.
