What is Employer Choice / Commonwealth Choice?

BMC HealthNet Plan now also offers commercial (private) health insurance coverage to individuals and their families. Commonwealth Choice plans are ideal private health plans if you’re self-employed, a contractor, or work at a small company that doesn’t offer any coverage.  Small employers who want to provide health coverage for their employees (and their families) can also purchase commercial insurance through BMC HealthNet Plan.

There are six different health benefit plan designs from which to choose.  These six plans are available through the Massachusetts Health Connector under the name BMC HealthNet Plan Commonwealth Choice and directly through BMC HealthNet Plan under the name BMC HealthNet Plan Employer Choice

What’s the difference between Employer Choice and Commonwealth Choice?

  • BMC HealthNet Plan Commonwealth Choice serves individuals and their families as well as small employers (with 50 or fewer eligible employees) who want to offer coverage to their employees (and their families).
  • BMC HealthNet Plan Employer Choice serves employers with 6 – 50 employees who want to offer coverage to their employees (and their families).
